| The
Keep Wales Tidy campaign, in association with several other organisations, have
set up the Clean rivers Project. The project encourages local people to 'adopt'
a stretch of river in their community and focus on its ongoing care.
Groups
produce management plans for their river, identifying potential works they wish
to undertake. To date, activities completed have included: litter picks, path
creation, tree planting, fencing, the construction of bridges, bird boxes and
fishing platforms. Funds and training are available to help with this work. What
can you do? Firstly,
you can help by disposing of your litter and waste correctly. Secondly,
report incidents of fly tipping. Fly tipping is illegal and offenders can be fined
up to £2500 for dumping domestic rubbish and up to £20000 for dumping commercial
rubbish. Incidents should be reported to your local authority or regional office
of the Environment Agency Thirdly,
and most importantly become a River care volunteer. If you would like to know
