The
commitment by the Ogmore Angling Association and it's
Council members to the natural environment along the Ogmore,
continues to grow even stronger. Last year the club initiated,
with the help of the RSPB, Keep Wales Tidy, the Bat Conservation
Trust, Friends of the Earth Cymru, and the Glamorgan wildlife
Trust the installation of over 60 bat & Bird boxes
along the river course. This has proved to be
such a great success,
that the OAA Council decided to continue the project into
2003, with additional boxes.
Litter and pollution is always high on the councils priorities,
river clean ups are a thankless task, however if not for
the few and dedicated, we many, would certainly see an
increase in litter throughout the river system [many more
snags to contend with, while fishing]. The OAA Council
are again organizing a number of river clean ups, for
2003. The first clean up of the season is to be held on
the 10th of Feb. 2003, with further dates on
the 23rd Feb., March 10th, 23rd, April 7th, 20th, May
5th, 18th, and June 2nd. No
one in their right mind likes to see litter, no fisherman
I know, like's to see litter in his river or on the riverbanks,
however we are the first to complain about it. Well here's
your chance to do something, that's going to improve your
fishing enjoyment and of course benefit the river. Come
on, make a difference, help the few and become one of
the dedicated, join the 2003 river clean ups. For further
details contact myself or any council member.
The
OAA Council with the help of the above mentioned organizations
are leading the way with proposed improvements to the
overall look of the riverbanks [concrete walls] throughout
Bridgend town center. I'm told that it has been a lot
of work and a long time in coming, however with the continued
work of our council, It is hoped that this project will
become a reality. Not only benefiting OAA anglers, but
the residents of Bridgend and its many visitors. Lets
all hope we see this project take place as I'm sure, if
anyone has taken the time to look at the river in town,
will agree this area desperately needs improving. The
River Ogmore and it's many town bridges are a central
key figure to Bridgend and therefore a shame to see this
area barren of wildlife and so unpleasing to the eye.
