With
diminishing resident brown trout in our UK rivers
due to pollution, disease, over fishing and poaching.
Replenishing stocks has become a necessary factor
for all good Game angling Clubs. The Ogmore Anglers
Association Ltd., one of the largest fishing clubs
in Wales have upheld a very effective stocking policy
for many years. Stocking the Rivers Ogmore and Ewenny
prior to the start of any fishing season with a
second stocking taking place during the season.
Thus providing sport for club members and enabling
the conversation of natural fish stocks.

There are many elements taken into consideration
before stocking can commence. Weather and water
conditions are imperative to the success of the
day. A licence must
be granted via the Environment Agency Wales before
any fish can be transported and entered into any
river course. |

This
years first stocking had to be brought forward due
to impending bad weather. However, once
permission has been obtained, eventually
everything comes together
and the fish arrive, ready for re-stocking. With
the help of club volunteers half of the fish are
quickly transferred to the Ogmore Anglers own fish
trailer/transporter. Enabling the two vehicles to
head off in separate directions, quicken the overall
transportation time, thus reducing any stress these
creatures have to endure.

Bob
Davies, Chairman of the Ogmore Anglers, stated "Finding

quicker growing rainbows, we are very lucky, with
Llyn-y-fan Hatchery in recent years the fish supplied
to us are of the very best quality, with an outstanding
service equalled by none"
