Following a recent review of fisheries monitoring
activities the Agency has decided to introduce a
log book scheme for grayling in an attempt to monitor
stocks by looking at catches and catch per unit
of effort over time. We are short of log book anglers
for South Wales rivers (Ogmore/Ewenny, Taff and
Rhymney) and I was wondering if any readers would
be interested in joining the scheme. If you are
interested, please let me have your name and address
details and I will arrange for a log book to be
posted to you. For each fishing visit you will be
asked to complete details of catch (numbers, lengths),
location, time spent fishing etc. When you have
finished for the season all you then need to do
is return completed logbook (freepost) to the agency
and you will receive a copy of report published
later in the year.
If you are interested (or if you know of anyone
who might be - for any river with grayling) please
let me have your details by email (rob.evans@environment-agency.gov.uk)
or tel; 02920 770088.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Rob Evans (National Stock Assessment Officer, National
Salmon and Trout Fisheries Centre, Cardiff).
